Mariia Kukkakorpi is a Finnish writer and a student in international master’s programme Media and Global Communication in University of Helsinki.
Despite her young age, she has studied both creative writing and film for several years and written for instance, fiction, poetry and screenplays. Her debut novel Henkäyksiä (2015) won the first prize called ’Möllärimestari’ in a self-publishing competition organised by Kalle Päätalo Institute in Finland. Many of her poems and film scripts have placed well in international writing competitions.
Kukkakorpi describes herself as an optimistic person, who keeps her feet steadily on the ground. She likes lighthouses, apples and running. She hates judgemental people, celery and running.
In the future, she would like to learn more about the fine craft of creative writing and focus on studying technology’s impact on the society.
